"Grexit" registered as a trademark!

The (non-)word "Grexit", a neologism derived from the English terms "Greece" and "Exit", is on everyone's lips due to Greece's current situation. Now an entrepreneur has had the word "Grexit" registered as a trademark with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office, among other things for alcoholic beverages.

The Westphalian entrepreneurs Uwe Dalhoff and Peter Heublein had the designation "Grexit" registered as a German trademark with the DPMA in goods and services classes 9, 32 and 33. The trademark was registered by the trade mark office with filing date 29. Januar 2015 under the 3020150043184 registered.

According to consistent media reports, the entrepreneurs intend to distribute a lemon-vodka liqueur with 16% alcohol by volume under the label "Grexit". In the event of Greece's withdrawal from the euro zone, Grexit parties are also to follow.

Dahlhoff is not using political crises for the first time to name an alcoholic beverage. In the nineteen-nineties, he brought a pear schnapps creation with the name "Helmuts Birne" and after the fall of the Berlin Wall a half-bitter called "Erich's Rache" to the market.

Conclusion

Whether the whole thing is in bad taste or witty remains – a matter of taste. In any case, we hope that the announced "Grexit" parties do not take place and that Greece remains in the EU!
